Being a facilitator of water fasting cellular detoxification retreats for over a decade, I often get asked how to make fasting easier? Preparation: How to start a water fast
You will want to prepare your body for your fast by letting go of all dairy, refined sugar, caffeine, and animal products including fish for two weeks prior to your fast.
I make sure my clients cut their coffee out prior to attending my water fasting retreats. This leaves very little chance of irritability popping up during the first few days.
How much water to drink on a water fast
On average my clients intake one gallon of water per day for any given period of time. The type of water you will want to stick to is distilled water during a water fast. It is void of minerals and will send you into ketosis quicker than spring water.
What happens to your body when you fast? 7 fasting stages
Here is a detailed list of the common stages of fasting" including what happens to your body when you fast and the cellular detoxification side effects you may or may not experience.
- 48-36 Hours Before the Fast - The preparation stage (nervousness and anxiety)
- 12 Hours Fasting - This is where your body enters the metabolic state (irritability and lightheadedness)
- 18 Hours Fasting - Switch to Fat-Burning Mode (increased energy, weight-loss)
- 24 Hours Fasting - Autophagy (skin rejuvenation)
- 48 Hours Fasting - You will begin seeing an increase in Human Growth Hormone Levels (let the anti-aging begin)!
- 54 Hours Fasting - Insulin Levels Drop to Lowest Point (sometimes anger or sadness may be experienced during this period of time).

How to break a water fast
Breaking the fast is the most important part of your fast. You can actually undo all of your hard work and effort by not breaking your water fast appropriately. Dietary considerations along with listening to your digestive system and monitoring your glucose levels are a must during this time.
how to break a 7-day water fast
Taking on a 7-day water fast is a bit harder to break than day water fast. This is due to the body needing to adapt. I generally give my clients something that can digest quickly such as melon. Watermelon is a favorite!
how to break a 14-day water fast
The juice is the way to go for one to three days after a fourteen-day fast. After consuming juice one can move onto foods such as fresh fruit as long as their glucose levels are stable.
how to break a 21-day water fast
I generally have my clients take three days to a week to begin eating again after a long-term water fast. I usually break their fast with my rich mineral broth and then move them onto a whole foods diet of fresh fruit and salads.
Motivation: Water fast before and after
You will be a healed person and quite different before water fasting versus after. Your skin will improve and quite honestly GLOW! Your bodily organs will run more efficiently. Your blood sugar will be more stabilized and many side effects you suffered from before such as weight gain or your inability to lose weight will be gone.

Can I drink juice on a water fast?
You cannot drink juice broth or any other beverage during a water fast. Water fasting is true to its name: It's a fast during which all food and drink except water are restricted. That means no coffee, no tea, no alcohol, no sports drinks, or any other beverage. This also means no food.
How long can you water fast safely?
Water fasts typically last 24–72 hours, but medically supervised water fasts may last up to 40 days. I underwent a tremendous detox while water fasting years ago in northern California for twenty-one days.
How much weight will I lose on a water fast?
The average person will lose 1-2 pounds per day on typical water fast. Men tend to lose weight more quickly than women due to them having less estrogen.
Is water fasting the best way to fast?
As a water and juice fasting facilitator, I would say absolutely yes! Water fasting is the easiest way to regain true health and to also heal at a cellular level. Essentially you are giving your organs a rest from heavy foods and other toxins such as alcohol and drugs.
The benefits of fasting have been written about for centuries. I often quote the fasting prayer in the bible in many of my wellness YouTube videos.
What does water fasting do for the body?
Whenever we stop eating the body heals. You can see this with many animals in the wild. They will go into hibernation without food when they have been injured. They come out with little to no side effects carrying a sense of true wellness.
All types of fasting give the organs a break. We see this a lot with people who practice intermittent fasting. The health benefits of water fasting go on and on. From healing people of heart disease to lowering cholesterol and blood sugar levels, water fasting is a short-term way of regenerating the body to induce long-term results.
Should I check with my doctor?
I always have my clients do a check with their doctors to see if they have any risk factors prior to attending my water fasting retreats at my Alkalize with Andrea water fasting retreats found here. This is so very important to make certain that blood sugar levels and electrolytes are in harmony prior to beginning the fast.
Although side effects are monitored at both my Alkalize with Andrea juice fasting retreats and water fasting retreats, this is still a must.
