While I was checking out in line a woman behind me said to me "you know that guy you gave money to is going to buy beer, cigarettes or dope". "Really, do you know him personally" I asked. "They all do" she said.
I left the store and went to look for him but he was gone. Quite honestly I wanted to know his shoe size because NO ONE should be out in the cold without shoes on.
My question is this--when in our "world of plenty" did we become so judgmental and heartless? I've sat and spoken with homeless people before. They have the most AMAZING life stories. Most people in the US are one paycheck away from being in this young man's shoes. Lets all try to have a little compassion for people who are going through a rough spot, shall we?
I've also written a poem for all of you to enjoy! I've named it after the homeless man I met mentioned in the post above. His name was Samuel. Enjoy and have a beautiful Thanksgiving!
May you all have warmth in your hearts to share
